Community Spotlight: Portage Park Nature Play Space

The Portage Park Nature Play Space is a community led initiative by Friends of Portage Park focused on creating a natural outdoor play area where children can explore, imagine, and stay active through hands on, nature based play.

The project is currently in the planning and fundraising phase and is being developed in coordination with the Chicago Park District. Community input will play an important role in shaping the final design as the project moves forward.

Community members are invited to attend an informational meeting on Monday, January 12 at 7 PM to learn more about the next stages of the Portage Park Nature Play Space. Volunteers will share updates from the Chicago Park District nature play leadership, including planning efforts, cost estimating, and preparation for a potential 2026 build.
